Road accidents reported in the Singapore Free Press on 14 August 1886.
The first involved a palanquin (a covered litter, probably pulled by a horse) owned by businessman Whampoa Hoo Ah Kay (Singapore’s Whampoa was named after him), and a bullock cart.
The second also involved a bullock cart.
What is clear from these reports is that one problem with animal-drawn transport in the olden days was that the animals could act up unexpectedly!
